Kongo was exhilarating defeating Kharitonov at Bellator 265
It looked as if he was done , Kharitonov was getting over on him well with good timing and a stiff jab , in fact Kongo spent most of the first round against the cage with his back against the wall Weathering the stellar jab of Kharitonov.
In between rounds, the corner told Cheick this was it , he had to go... he had to let go ...
More than likely sensing that their fighter was hurt , tired , 46 years old , and maybe on his last leg.
Well, Kongo came out and exhilarated the Bellator MMa fans both at venue and on showtime as he methodically worked his way back into the fight with his reach and boxing ...
By midway through round 2 Kongo had found his way back to the center of the cage going toe to toe with Kharitonov , a stark contrast to just minutes before in round 1.....
And then it happened , a right hand that stunned Kharitonov, he wobbled , and from there a exhausted Kongo went to work , the tables turned and it was Kharitonov with his back against the wall...
Kongo changed levels and with all the might left in him was able to get his foe to the ground ..... exhausted, u could see both men were exhausted.... with seconds left Cheick Kongo secured a half hearted choke and emptied his soul into it.....
And as the buzzard for round two sounded so did Kharitonov with taps to the canvass to say "I quit"...... they landed just seconds before the bell tolled.
Cheick Kongo had defeated Kharitonov, and he lay there unable to get up , unable to move, he was done had the fighter not tapped.....
He had nothing left.
At 46 years of age, it was symbolic of a beautiful career, and I think it should be his swan song. He should ride off into the sunset now........
Least it be too late ❗
