PAULO COSTA LIKELY HAD NO CHANCE TO BEAT VETTORI WITHOUT A FINISH AT UFC VEGAS 41

Paulo Costa is a world class MIXED MARTIAL ARTS fighter. But , you would not have gotten that sense in the week leading up to UFC Vegas 41.
Costa showed up nearly 30 pounds overweight....with no real plan of how to make the 185 pound limit set for the fight.
It left a bitter taste in the mouth's of everyone.
What you have to understand is that the UFC is a essientally a traveling gladiator show. All of these people travel together and deal with each other on a daily basis.
From the guys who set up the octagon , to the drivers who deliver it , to the fight makers , and production crew , all the way to the commentators and referees. This is a close knit community.
They all work with each other to produce the ufc and to ensure that they all get paid.
The judges are part of the Nevada state athletic commission, or they are atleast sanctioned by them. But these judges also require athletes to show up and be ready , and professional in order to earn a paycheck.
Paulo Costa showed up with excuses , why he was unable to perform and make Weight and be professional.
And I believe anywhere outside of him finishing Marvin Vettori or just beating him senseless every round. He was going to fall on the wrong side of a decision if the fight was even close to competitive and went the distance.
This people( the ufc ) expect professionals, and if your not one. Your going to get ramifications for that.
Look at Jason Herzog. The referee for example. In my opinion the gold standard of refs. .... took a point from Costa for basically nothing.
* when this happened , one of the ufc commentators said :
" Yeah Paulo , your getting a point taken away , you don't run the show here "
* as if to applaud the decision , as if it was deserved regardless because of bad attitude.
A clear punishment. For his attitude during fight week , and his unwillingness to fulfill his contractual obligation.
Which if the fight would have fell through would have meant , herzog would have lost pay.
In the end ..........
Costa didn't get screwed. He got beat by a better athlete. But , the fix was in , I can assure you , if it came down to being close.
All three judges scored the fight 48-46 Vettori
Paulo Costa needs to fight at Light Heavyweight moving forward. And not risk the living of the workers and athletes of the UFC.
He might be surprised and never get a invite to come back , although , it's likely this was a hard warning.
